Rotherham Central

Welcome message from the Neighbourhood Inspector Liam Walters

I’m Inspector Liam Walters, and I head up the Rotherham Central Neighbourhood Policing Team.

We cover quite a large area, including the town centre. The areas classed as central Rotherham are Rotherham East, Rotherham West, Sitwell, Boston Castle, Keppel and Wingfield.

As the country emerges from the Covid-19 pandemic, my team’s priority will be to make sure the town centre is a welcoming and safe place to visit. We’ll be working with businesses to help them re-open, we’ll be proactively working with partners to reduce anti-social behaviour and we’ll be prioritising tackling burglary, vehicle crime and other theft.

We have a real diverse mix of communities living in this area of Rotherham and I want to make sure every community feels valued, reassured and listened to. Please say hello if you see your local officers, and contact us about any issues that matter to you.

Your local police station is:

Riverside House

Main Street, Rotherham

Commercial burglaries are a concern to us.

We did...

Throughout lockdown we have been working with businesses to ensure their premises are secure from thieves. Once places start to reopen, we will once again focus on helping business owners protect their premises and property from being targeted by thieves and shoplifters.

Speeding is a problem in the area - Operation Slowdown.

We did...

You frequently tell us that speeding is a problem in your communities. We listen to these reports, and respond by conducting speed checks along those routes where you say you want to see more speeding operations. You can find out how these go by visiting our social media channels.

Off-road motorbikes are a nuisance in the area.

We did...

In partnership with our off road bike team, we have an operation named “Op Arlington” which targets the use of off road bikes and the nuisance these cause to our communities. Illegal off road bikes are seized under the Police Reform Act and offenders are dealt with for road related offences.

You want us to tackle drug use and production in the area.

We did...

We continue to listen to our communities and look into valuable intelligence. A recent drugs warrant in the Eastwood area resulted in cannabis cultivation being found and over 100 plants seized, which is essentially £100,000 drugs off the street of Rotherham.

Residential burglaries are concerning to us.

We did...

We recently worked with many partnership agencies to look into the spike in burglaries around the Clifton area. The introduction of Smart Water, community engagement and tackling our known offenders saw a reduction in the crimes recorded. We continue to listen and will always be here in our fight against thieves.

Meetings, Drop In's and more...

We regularly arrange 'walkabouts' around the areas that we cover, where we meet up with local Councillors and partners to give us a chance to engage with members of the public and speak about issues and areas that matter to you.

Similarly, we also have monthly meetings together, to discuss any concerns or worries raised and update about what action we have taken to deal with these.

Now COVID restrictions have eased, we have also started to attend our Drop In's again as well as different events at different venues across Rotherham Central.

Please see our other updates for times, dates and locations across the different Wards in Rotherham Central...
