Four South Yorkshire Police officers wowed the judges at the UK Armed Forces Equestrian Championships 2019 last week, coming home with five medals between them.

The annual competition sees riders from the Army, Navy, RAF and blue-light services compete in various disciplines including show jumping and dressage.

Sheffield South East PCSO Emma-Jo Thorpe, won the 1m open show jumping class with her 10 year old horse Marley, she also came 6th in the Novice dressage category.

PC Julie Bradshaw from the force’s Mounted Unit won the Prelim Dressage with her horse Roux with Chief Inspector Lydia Lynskey coming a close second with Filey.

DC Joanne Wilson, from Rotherham CID, thrilled the crowds with her dressage to music, coming 5th in the Elementary dressage competition.

PCSO Thorpe: “It’s such a fantastic competition, the quality of riding is fantastic and it’s an honour to be invited to ride at these competitions alongside other serving personnel.

“It’s also great to compete alongside colleagues from the force, who have a passion for riding and equestrian sport, especially when they get such a good reaction from the crowds!”
