Three members of a Doncaster gang are today starting 14 years behind bars for a section 18 assault and violent disorder on Schofield Street in May 2017.
Jason McGuire (24) of Schofield Street, Mexborough was sentenced to 10 years for Section 18 assault, Liam McGuire (27) also of Schofield Street, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for violent disorder and Samuel Wright (20) of Elm Lane, Conisborough, was jailed for 18 months for affray.
All three appeared before Sheffield Crown Court yesterday (Wednesday 14 November) to be sentenced after pleading guilty to those offences.
DCI Paul Wilson said: “At around 3pm on Friday 12 May 2017, officers were called to reports of fighting on Schofield Street, Mexborough (an area where gang members are known to live and visit). The fight was between members of a local gang and a rival group.
“CCTV evidence recovered from the area showed both groups were carrying weapons, throwing bricks and damaging vehicles. A number of gang members were identified as being involved in the disturbance by police officers and PCSO staff.
“Gang member Wright was seen throwing bricks at vehicles and behaving in a threatening manner. McGuire was carrying what looked like a metal bar. He was also seen smashing the window of a van.
“McGuire could be seen on CCTV with a machete. He hits the same vehicle with the knife before attacking the window of the van, thrusting it inside the vehicle at its occupant.
“A man inside the van at the time suffered life-altering damage to his right hand that needed surgery as a result of McGuire’s attack.
“Today’s sentencing sends a message to gang members across South Yorkshire that this behaviour will not be tolerated, and the consequences of being involved are high. Local communities can be assured that we will always use the full force of the law to stop these individuals from being able to commit such crimes.”
