It was a sunny Sunday of celebration as the Specials helped to celebrate the annual Vaisakhi festival in Doncaster.
The historic religious Sikh and Hindu festival was a day of celebration to mark the ripening of the Rabi harvest on Saturday 19 May. During the festival, Special Chief Inspector Adrian Fuller and seven special constables assisted and oversaw the festival as it passed through the town centre on its route between the two Temples.
It was a day filled with colour, brightness and sunshine as over 1500 people took to the streets to participate in the parade, as Special CI Adrian Fuller explains: “This was the third time we have helped to assist with the festival, which was a fantastic day of celebration.
“It was honour to be involved and to see the local community come together to mark and celebrate the annual event. The bright colours, support and atmosphere were enjoyed by all and I’m very much looking forward to the festival again next year.”
This is just one of the events the Special Constables have and continue to be involved in locally and this festival along with other annual events provides opportunities for our local communities to celebrate together.
Specials Constables are amongst many of the working volunteers across the force, who we are this week celebrating as part of National Volunteers Week.
