As part of our ongoing journey to becoming an outstanding force, as of today (19 May) our Barnsley North East Neighbourhood Team’s social media accounts are changing to provide a better service to you, the public.

Recently the Barnsley North East unit separated into two separate teams, the ‘North’, and the ‘North East’. The North East team has retained the original Facebook account, and the North team has set up a new ‘Barnsley North NHP’ page.

The new North team covers St Helens, Darton East, Darton West and Old Town and comprises one sergeant, four police constables and five Police Community Support Officers. The team also benefits from two youth engagement officers, who cover the entire district.

Barnsley North Sergeant, Ross Greenwood said: “We are separating our teams’ social media accounts to provide a more bespoke and supportive service to our communities.

“We want you to know who your local officers are and to know where to go for help and information.

“We want to be there for you and we want to provide you with an outstanding service.”

The North Team has recently welcomed three new officers – PCs Paul Jameson and Chris Ling as well as Sgt Greenwood, who joined the team from Sheffield in January.

The team’s focus will be on intercepting criminality, providing reassurance through proactive patrols and getting to know our communities to ensure we are working in those areas most affected by anti-social behaviour.

Sgt Greenwood added: “If you live in the St Helens, Darton East, Darton West and Old Town areas of Barnsley make sure you are following us, your local team, on social media.

“The new Facebook page - Barnsley North NHP – will cover local news and updates.

“While we are working through the current pandemic, we will be using our page to hold online question and answer sessions, so give us a follow, share your thoughts and let’s work together to improve our streets and make sure Barnsley continues to be a great place to live and work. I want to hear from you via the Q&As about the issues you might be experiencing so we can work together to solve them. Our next session is Thursday 21 May, 1pm till 3pm."

The team also has a new dedicated email address,, which can be used to contact them directly. Please always
