Officers are appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage after a woman was reportedly struck by a lorry on the M18 yesterday afternoon (Saturday 11 July).

Shortly after 4.40pm, police received numerous reports of a woman on the wrong side of the railings over the M18 southbound, between Junction 2 and Junction 1.

The woman is believed to have fallen from the bridge running over the motorway, Ruddle Lane, and collided with a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) in the carriageway.

The 46-year-old was transported to Northern General Hospital where she remains in a critical condition. Her family have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.

The southbound carriageway was closed until late last night to allow our investigation to take place.

We are now keen to hear from any motorists who were travelling on the M18 yesterday afternoon who witnessed the incident, or the woman prior. We are especially keen to hear from anyone with dash cam footage.

Please call 101 quoting incident number 694 of 11 July 2020. If you have dash cam footage, you can email this through to enquiries@southyorks.pnn.police.uk quoting the incident number in the subject line.
