Chief Superintendent Stuart Barton started his career at Greater Manchester Police in January 1991. During the early part of his career he patrolled the suburbs of the City before transferring to Salford as a young Detective Constable.

Promotion over the next few years saw him move across many different districts including a spell as the Inspector responsible for Manchester City Centre and Chief Inspector at Stockport.

Within the last two years Stuart has worked as part of the Local Policing review, Human Resources restructure and as force Wellbeing lead. Following the Manchester terrorist attack in May 2017 he was took on the responsibility for the welfare of all staff affected by the tragedy.

In January 2018 Stuart was appointed Chief Superintendent for Sheffield after making a decision to take on the challenge of working in another force.

“Sheffield is a great and proud city. I know it’s a tough place to work but it’s a place that offers the Police family a taste of everything that keeps us on our toes. It’s an honour to work alongside some great people and serve some passionate communities”
