Fatal collision in Penistone, Barnsley

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a collision, in which a 49-year-old man died.

At around 11.50am this morning (Sunday 8 October), a cyclist was travelling downhill along Carr Lane, away from the A629 towards Broad Oak Lane, when the rider of the bike appears to have mounted a grass verge before losing control and falling in to the road.

The cyclist was subsequently involved in a collision with a black Landrover Freelander, travelling in the opposite direction.

The collision happened close to the entrance of Carr Lane Farm.

The cyclist, a 49-year-old man from Barnsley, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers investigating the collision want to hear from anyone who saw what happened, and has not yet been in touch, to contact them.
