SYP Response:

I approached our Crime Management System (CMS) Administrator for assistance with your request.   The CMS system is used to record complaints or allegations of those matters, which the Home Office specify should be recorded as ‘crimes’.

She provided me with the enclosed spreadsheet and the following explanation of her search criteria:

I have provided a count of all offences recorded on the CMS crime register between 01-Jan-2012 and 31-Oct-2017, broken done by the offence class.

I have also provided the offence outcomes.

I have not been able to complete this FOI in the format specified by the requester, as the offence classes are not extracted from CMS in the same format as the table provided.

You should note all offence classes and outcomes have provided to give a clearer picture for your research.

The requester should also be advised regarding the regarding the following –

The Home Office changed the approach to reviewing outcomes of crimes implemented in South Yorkshire in July 2014, and now a broader framework is now in place. A crime which would have previously been closed as 'undetected' is now given a specific outcome based on the specific circumstances of that crime, therefore data for July 2014 – Oct 2017 includes outcomes, 2012 – June 2014 includes undetected offences.

In addition, the outcomes CHARGED, SUMMONS and CAUTIONS changed in 2017 and we now specifically record for what offence, the offender was charged i.e. CHARGED is now recorded as either CHARGED WITH OFFENCE RECORDED Or CHARGED WITH AN ALTERNATIVE OFFENCE, therefore some outcomes may not be applicable depending to the year recorded.

Also some offence classes have changed over the years specified, therefore some offences may not be applicable to some years i.e. BURGLARY IN A DWELLING is now recorded as BURGLARY- RESIDENTIAL.
